Who or what is Winfield Communication
Winfield Communication was the first locally provisioned ISP in the greater Akron area. We first went on line in January 1995 an provided shell login accounts along with SLIP/PPP access. Our users had the ability to create web pages and had access to all services that most ISPs now provide. In addition, we were a web hosting site for close to 25 companies in the budding e-commerce arena. We also held domain names for over 50 domains and did secondary DNS for over 150 domains for ISPs in Indiana and Washington state. We were also responsible for the original web page content of the Akron Art Museum
Alas... All good things come to an end... We terminated our ISP services at midnight February 28,1997. This was due to some changes in careers. We simply didn't have the time or financial resources to keep the business going.
So, what are we doing now? I have keep the domain name servers up (although the connection is not a T1 anymore). I use it to mostly set up web pages for non-profits and school functions.

What do the Modules do that are found in the Main Menu
Each Module performs a different function or takes you to a different part of this portal site. As of right now, there are 11 different Modules. They may stay the same or be changed according to need.
Each Module will described separately.
What is the Download module for?
The Download module has 2 purposes - It will let a registered user upload files and will allow any user to download files.
Any files that are uploaded will not be seen by the web site users until it is approved by the administrator. At this time, NO executable files will be accepted as uploads by this site. There are too many virus infected files floating around the Internet today. If you would like to see a executable available for downloading on this site, please email the Webperson in charge and we can discuss it.
Pictures are welcome - Especially pictures of your Dachshunds!.
What is the FAQ Module?
If you are reading this, you are using the FAQ module. By now most folks know what that FAQ stands for Frequently Asked Questions.
This module allows you ask questions about this site and keeps them as a repository for others to see - they may have the same questions!
What is the Forum module for?
The Forum module allows you to carry on posting conversations with users having the same interests. Forums can be added as needed. Please email the Webperson in charge for information on additions.
What is the Gallery module for?
The Gallery module is a photo gallery. If you have a few pictures you would like to share of your Dachsie friends, send email to the Webperson in charge to create a album for you to upload pictures in.
What is the Members List module for?
The Members List module allows you to see members that are registered on this site. The Anonymous user is the anyone that is not registered.
What is the Recommend Us module for?
If you like this site - you might want to tell others about it. The Recommend Us module allows you to send the URL of this site to your friends.
What is the Stats module for?
The Stats module displays statistics about this site.
What is the Submit News module for?
The Submit News module is used for submitting articles for publication. The articles appear on the home page and are added by topics. All articles submitted are put through an approval process where they are approved for display. As of right now, there are 2 topics All Topics, which a a generic area and Dachshunds, which is a topic area for Dachshund enthusists. More topics may be added as needed.
What is the Weather module used for?
The Weather module displays this comming 5-7 days worth of weather. It is a different weather display than what is displayed on the home page. This module is should be used when you are reading content and want to know what the upcoming weather will be.
What is th Web Links module for?
The Web Links module categories the local web links that are part of this site. Web links can be added as needed. If you would like to see an new category of Web Links or add Links please contact the Webperson for requests.
What is the Search module for?
The Search module allows you to Search this Site for information.
What does Home do?
The Home link returns you to the home page.
What does My Account do?
The My Account link takes you to your account maintenance page. Here you can change personal preferences, include display themes.
What does Logout
The Logout link logs out registered users from this site.
